Colloquia

Though atomic nuclei are complex many body objects with two types of bodies and multiple forces, this colloquium will focus on simple ideas relating to their structure and to the evolution of that structure with nucleon number. The most basic empirical data on nuclei will motivate a discussion of the the main driving contributions to structure and structural evolution.  Two particular emphases will be on looking at data from multiple perspectives and exploiting correlations in the data between different observables. In the end, this will culminate in an extremely simple way to estimate the structure of any nucleus simply by multiplying two integers (each less than 44).
